Georgina Coburn

I'm an artist, illustrator, writer and art historian born in Melbourne, Australia. I grew up in Perth, where I completed my Art History degree at the University of Western Australia (UWA). From 1995, I lived and worked in Canada, the UK and Ireland before settling permanently in the Scottish Highlands in 2000. 

Between 2008- 2013, I worked as a guest lecturer Moray College, UHI, Elgin, as part of the Fine Art Degree Course-Professional Practice unit.  From Sept 2006 - April 2008 I worked as an art tutor in painting and drawing for an Adult Education evening class at Merkinch Community Centre, Inverness.

I have hosted author and director Q&A's at the Ness Book Festival, Eden Court Theatre and Cinemas and in 2019, took part in a live reading at Ness Book Festival with my first children's chapter book 'Barncle the Walrus'. I have been a member of the Inverness Children's Writers and Illustrators Group since 2018 and am a member of the Society of Authors.

Interests

My interests include drawing, painting, photography, world cinema, silent cinema, classical music, the natural world and sculpting in cake. I am a member of the Inverness Children's Writers and Illustrators Group, Scottish Society of Art Historians (SSAH) and the For Art History /Association of Art Historians UK. I'm inspired by the work of Lotte Reiniger, Arthur Rackham, Katsushika Hokusai, William Blake,  Albrecht Dürer, Gustav Doré, Hannah Hoch, Agnes Parker Miller, Edward Gorey, John Tenniel, Kay Neilsen, Edmund Dulac, Maurice Sendak, Kenojuak Ashevak, Julie Vivas, Inko, Marjane Satrapi, Caroline Leaf, Ed Vere, Sydney Smith and Shaun Tan.
